How the International Break is effecting Orlando City

As the Copa America Centenario rolls on with zero representation from Orlando City in terms of players participating in the tournament, we look at the whereabouts of some players from both Orlando City Soccer Club and the Orlando Pride.

Kaká who was a late addition to Brazil’s Copa America squad was injured in a training session and will no longer be a part of the squad moving forward. Christian Higuita was named to Colombia’s preliminary roster but ultimately didn’t make the squad either. Cyle Larin was set to represent Canada in a friendly against Uzbekistan but was ruled out due to illness. So, all in all, no Lions represented their countries over the last two weeks.

On the other hand, Alex Morgan did contribute to the USWNT’s two friendlies having a brace in the 2-2 draw and adding a goal to seal the game in the 2-0 victory over Japan in their back-to-back matches. Alex Morgan has now scored 11 goals in her last 11 games for the USWNT. Ashlyn Harris was named to the squad but did not participate. Monica represented Brazil against teammate Josée Bélanger when they squared off with Canada. The two friendlies were split 1-1. Laura Alleway, Steph Catley, and the rest of the Matildas won one match and drew in another as Australia faced rival New Zealand.

Overall, the Pride were the more active team during this international break than Orlando City was. The Pride face the Western New York Flash on Saturday in Buffalo. The Pride won the last matchup 1-0 on the back of an Alex Morgan goal. Orlando City have to wait until the 15th to face Jacksonville to start US Open Cup action, their next MLS match is on the 18th against the San Jose Quakes.
